Up until 2015, the Emily Jerry Foundation was run very modestly. It was essentially Chris Jerry’s way to pay tribute to his daughter and get some satisfaction in knowing that her death was not in vain.
A New Beginning for the Foundation:
Through speaking with others, including those involved in running very large and successful charities, it was realized that in order to be much more impact to inspire real positive change to make a difference and ultimately achieve its mission, the Foundation really needed to ramp up, and so; it has taken the steps necessary, starting first with the launch of this new website on June 24th, 2016, after weeks of focused, long hours and hard work by our new web team.
Most importantly, with a real budget now in place and realistic and achievable goals, the Foundation has set off on a new path through focusing on its initiatives (some old, some new) to help bring about these vital changes in healthcare.
Up until 2016, covering the expenses of the Foundation depended entirely on Chris Jerry funding the Foundation activities from a monthly annuity (which was created from the settlement involving Emily’s death) and income from speaking engagements.
In 2016, the Emily Jerry Foundation formed a Board which now sets the budget for the upcoming fiscal year, and then this determines what monthly goals need to be met.
Budgets are set based on several key factors:
- Active initiatives and their costs
- Operational expenses
- Monetary contributions
- Investment performance
- Other contributions
Administrative and Overhead Costs:
Approximately 20% of all funds are used for administrative and overhead costs directly related to keeping the Foundation funded. Salaries set by the Board are below standards typically paid for these positions. The balance of the donation goes directly to the general fund; or when an initiative is specified by the directed donation. Customary Standards and Methodology guidelines followed can be found at Charity Navigator, http://www.charitynavigator.org.
EJF is a registered 501(c)3. All donations are tax deductible. Please help us achieve our ramped-up goals and make a contribution today. For corporate sponsorship available for initiatives, please contact us.
