Pharmacy Best Practices App
To achieve 100% assured pharmacy safety, a healthcare organization must implement systems, protocols and processes which can be learned through adapting best practices as determined by the ASHP, PTCB and other organizations. However, the tasks of getting an entire organization to follow best practices can be arduous, and the guidelines of what’s needed next, to achieve 100% assured pharmacy safety, can be daunting.
This initiative, therefore, is to develop (in cooperation with Click IT Medical – see http://pharmacybestpractices.com) a web-based questions and answers app, to help pharmacies quickly and easily learn their current risks and what’s needed, so their safety ranking ultimately achieves the Emily Jerry Award of Excellence. The concept is to make self-examination and evaluation simple, intuitive and engaging while finding informative answers to what next steps need to be taken to achieving the ultimate goal by moving up to a higher level in the app. The app will keep track of an entire organization’s progress, with a goal also being to help build awareness in a competitive, unintimidating and friendly manner, where test results can be compared with peers.
Many questions asked of both the pharmacists and his or her pharmacy technicians will be answered either with a “yes” or “no”, with a goal of this web app to provide an understanding of where the pharmacy is and what it needs to do in order to ensure it is following current best practices in medication safety.
The goal in taking the test for an administrator is not only to learn where your facility stands in comparison to your peers, but also to learn and be instructed through recordings and videos on how to go from answering “No” to a question in a category, such as “Do you provide on-going education…?”, to answering a “Yes”, moving your pharmacy up the scale until all the questions can be answered with a “Yes”.
